NDA Vice-Presidential candidate Radhakrishnan meets former PM H D Deve Gowda

National Democratic Alliance’s Vice-Presidential candidate C P Radhakrishnan on Wednesday met former prime minister H D Deve Gowda here.

Gowda expressed happiness for Radhakrishnan being selected as the NDA candidate for the post.

The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for September 9.

“Today, Maharashtra Governor and NDA Vice-Presidential candidate, C P Radhakrishnan, met me; it’s an honour for me. C P Radhakrishnan has a lot of experience. He has also served as the Governor of many states. He has been selected by PM Modi, and I am very happy that he has been selected,” Gowda said.

Earlier in the day, Radhakrishnan filed his nomination papers for the Vice Presidential elections in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Modi said that Radhakrishnan will prove an “outstanding” Vice President of India.

“The NDA family is confident that he will be an outstanding VP and will enrich our journey towards national progress,” the Prime Minister posted on ‘X’.

Radhakrishnan paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Rani Lakshmibai, B R Ambedkar and Bhagwan Birsa Munda in the premises of Parliament.

On Tuesday, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge announced the name of Sudershan Reddy as Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition parties.

“This Vice-Presidential contest is an ideological battle. All Opposition parties have nominated Shri B Sudershan Reddy Garu as their joint candidate for the position of the Vice President of India,” he said in a social media post.

Senior Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also said that the Opposition is united in this “ideological battle”.

“I warmly congratulate B Sudershan Reddy Garu on being nominated as the joint opposition candidate for the Vice President of India. A distinguished jurist and champion of justice, he represents the spirit of our Constitution – safeguarding people’s rights, equality and our democracy. We stand united in this ideological battle and wish him all the very best,” Gandhi posted on X.

He is expected to file his nomination on August 21.
